MarathonFounded in 1977, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is the height of attainment for both everyday runners and seasoned athletes. This year, the marathon has been slated for October 7, giving numerous runners a chance to achieve their dream. As a community member of Presidential Towers, you will not have to worry about scrambling for accommodation during this period.

The Chicago Marathon

The Chicago marathon offers a flat and fast course, one that travels through 29 neighborhoods in a beautiful city and starts and finishes in Grant Park. This has attracted over half a million runners since the marathon was founded.
Those interested in participating in the marathon should submit their applications before the application window closes. To be eligible, participants have to meet certain event requirements. You will also be required to pay a registration fee as part of the application process. Runners have the option of registering for different categories and track events.

During the marathon, participating masses will have access to medical support as well as designated aid stations that offer different amenities. While preparing for the event, runners can go through a training program that focuses on exercise, health and nutrition.
If you are not keen on taking part in the marathon, you can choose to be a volunteer or join the 1.7 million spectators in supporting the runners. The Chicago Marathon employs environmentally and socially responsible practices, making it more than just a simple track event.

Running Tips

Running a marathon is no joke. You must prepare adequately both before and on the day of the race. During the week, you should go easy on exercise, focus on sleep, and drink plenty of water. On the day, eat breakfast two hours before the race, start fueling before the race, and have the right mind frame both before and during the race.

There is no doubt that taking part in the Chicago marathon will make for an experience of a lifetime. Choosing our Chicago apartments will ensure that your experience is more fun and memorable. Call our office today to explore the different floor plans and learn about the amenities Presidential Towers offers its residents.

Lobster PlatterLabor Day has come to represent the official end of summer. While there are certainly plenty of toasty days ahead of us, this is the weekend when people really get out and enjoy the beauty of the area surrounding our Chicago apartments. If you're looking for something fun to do this Labor Day weekend, here are a few places you'll find some of your "Windy City" neighbors hanging out.

Great American Lobster Fest

Nobody said you have to be on the coast to get incredible seafood. The Great American Lobster Fest is the perfect use for the Navy Pier, bringing with it live lobster flown in fresh from the cold waters of the Atlantic. This event features live music, an interesting assortment of arts and crafts for sale, and a variety of food options, too.

Ravinia Music Festival

The Ravinia Music Festival features some of the most magical musical acts Labor Day weekend has to offer. If you're looking for an excuse to step out of your comfort zone and venture a little farther away from downtown than you'd normally go, this music festival is the perfect place to lay down your blanket and open your picnic basket.

Navy Pier Fireworks

There's nothing quite like watching fireworks explode over a large body of water. The Navy Pier's fireworks offer a family-friendly way to celebrate the end of summer in style. It's free to check out the sparkling lights, but while you're there, you might want to consider taking a boat tour or hitching a ride on the climate-controlled Centennial Wheel.

African American Festival of Arts

Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood comes alive on Labor Day weekend, creating a simulated African village that's filled with vibrant art, interactive experiences and engaging music that'll make your heart skip a beat. You'll find museum-quality collectible artifacts and an assortment of hand-woven textiles. Be sure to check out some of the authentic food before you leave!

Start fall off on the right step. Move into a beautiful apartment that's close to all the action Chicago has to offer. Our Presidential Towers community offers an incredible assortment of amenities, and we're right in the heart of everything that makes this city great. Check out our available floor plans online today!

BeachAccording to a famous Ella Fitzgerald song, "Summertime, and the livin' is easy." Well, maybe not so much if you're living in Chicago during a heat wave. If it seems like your thermometer won't stop edging upward, check out the following Lake Michigan beaches where you can seek refuge from Chicago's often hot dog days of summer.

North Avenue Beach

This popular and typically busy beach is located in Lincoln Park at 1600 N. Lake Shore Drive. You'll find just about everything you'll need to enjoy a day at the beach here, including concessions, restrooms, kayak and bike rentals, volleyball courts, as well as views of the city. It also boasts a unique beach house that has been designed to look like a stranded ocean liner.

Oakwood Beach

This relatively secluded stretch of sand, located at 4100 S. Lake Shore Drive, is Chicago's newest beach. Amenity-wise, it has restrooms, a lifeguard first aid station, and pretty views of the city. It is also home to Mamby on the Beach, Chicago's only beachside music festival.

Montrose Beach

Do you have a dog that enjoys the beach life as much as you do? Then head over to Montrose Beach. This popular Uptown stretch of sand, located at 4400 N. Lake Shore Drive, has most of the standard amenities you'd expect at a nice beach, including concessions, restrooms, and shower facilities. But what sets it apart is its extra amenities, such as kayak rentals, free Wi-Fi, and a fenced-off area where dogs can play off their leashes.

Oak Street Beach

Located at 1000 N. Lake Shore Drive, this beach is just a quick walk from the Magnificent Mile. So it's probably not surprising that this beach, which offers chair and bike rentals and restrooms, is so popular with Chicagoans. Oak Street Beach also hosts a number of volleyball tournaments during the summer months.

Enjoy the Beach Life

Our apartments in Chicago are located close to the Metra, CTA, 190/94, I55 and I290, so you can enjoy a relatively easy commute to most of these beaches. Interested in living in our conveniently located community? Please contact us for more information.

Fried ChickenThe city of Chicago is known for robust urban living and offers the very best in metropolitan life and culture. However, not everyone is aware that Chicago is also a source for some of the best fried chicken in the country.

National Fried Chicken Day is on July 6, but any day can be fried chicken day from your Chicago apartments at Presidential Towers. Whether you go out to eat or make your own fried chicken in one of our well-appointed living spaces, that unparalleled flavor is available all year-round. For those who want lighter fare, grilled chicken prepared at our on-site grilling area is the perfect alternative.

Crispy breading, the perfect spices and a juicy interior create the best fried chicken, and Chicagoland is overflowing with great choices. Here are five of the best fried chicken options in the city.

Best Fried Chicken in Chicago

1. Blue Door Kitchen & Garden

52 W Elm St.

(312) 573-4000

Enjoy buttermilk marinated chicken cooked to golden, crispy perfection. This is an Oprah favorite! During brunch on the weekends, you can get Art Smith's famous fried chicken served with waffles.

2. Big Jones

5347 N Clark St.

(773) 275-5725

Feast on Southern fried chicken at this restaurant. Chef Paul Fehribach brines Amish chicken in herbs and spices and then fries it in leaf lard, ham drippings, and clarified butter.

3. The Budlong

1008 West Armitage Ave.

(773) 270-9005

Enjoy Nashville-style hot BBQ chicken in mild, medium or extra spicy hot. There are additional locations in Lincoln Square and Revival Food Hall.

4. Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken

847 W Fulton Market

(312) 733-1971

Originating in Tennessee, the secret to this fried chicken is the dark skin, which receives its color from the fryer and creates a crunchy and tasty coating. Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken achieves the perfect balance of saltiness and spiciness which will have you wanting more.

5. Crisp

2940 N Broadway

(773) 697-7610

Korean fried chicken offered as plain or sauced makes for a unique and unforgettable experience. There are traditional BBQ and Buffalo options, but the family recipe Seoul Sassy is a favorite. It's a sweet sauce composed of ginger, soy, garlic, and other spices.

BBQ RibsDating back to the Civil War, we have celebrated Memorial Day the last week of May, and it marks the official start of summer. On the 28th of May, 2018, we'll honor and remember all the men and women who've died serving with the American armed forces.

To honor such heroic service and sacrifice, American families prepare delicacies to celebrate their own way. But to make it even more phenomenal, here are a few BBQ recipes and restaurants you ought to try this Memorial Day.

Guy’s St. Louis Ribs With Tequila BBQ Sauce

If you’ve ever tried it, then you can agree that tequila adds some sweet flavor to everyone’s favorite dish.

Upon preparing your ribs with the rest of the ingredients, brush your tequila BBQ sauce on both sides of the rib while allowing time to heat. The result is juicy yet crisp, tasty ribs for all to enjoy. Check out the recipe at Woman’s Day.

Classic Potato Salad

This coming Memorial Day, prepare Classic Potato Salad, and witness as everyone fights for the last, delicious scoop.

Ingredients for this recipe include Yukon gold potatoes chopped into pieces, boiled eggs, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and butterhead lettuce. For the best flavor, serve cold or at room temperature. Find the full recipe courtesy of Delish.

Green Street Smoked Meats

Located in the great city of Chicago, Green Street Smoked Meats is not your typical restaurant.

A friendly staff member will welcome you. Upon entering the joint, serene atmosphere decorated with strings of bulbs renders the place lively and makes you feel at home.

The scent of meats will get you salivating even before you can take your seat. Check out the menu, and order delicious, crisp, smoked BBQ with some macaroni salad, coleslaw, or corn on the side.

With a bottle of wine, your hot chopped brisket, ribs, or hot links will taste heavenly.

Blackwood BBQ

Conveniently located in the heart of Chicago, Blackwood BBQ is a great spot for high-quality, delicious barbeque on Memorial Day.

Every meal is hand-selected and hand-prepared by trained chefs passionate about what they do.

The flavored, juicy, seasoned meat you want comes accompanied by six types of sauces—all with the goal of meeting the tastes and preferences of every guest who walks through those doors.

Service there is top-notch, thanks to the friendly staff. And do you know the best part? The food is surprisingly scrumptious and affordable.

Celebrate Memorial Day in Style

What do you say to the idea of celebrating Memorial Day in one of the best apartments in Chicago?
