The Windy City is ready to thaw out after a long winter's slumber. As the residents of our Chicago, IL apartments start to shed those layers in favor of light jackets, we've found a few ways you can enjoy your springtime free time!

Catch a Baseball Game

Fewer things scream spring quite like Opening Day at a baseball diamond. Whether you're in the Cubs club, live and breathe the White Sox, or you really don't know anything about the game at all, make sure you pencil in a game early in the season. Grab a hot dog while you're there–the game's just not the same without one!

Head to the Navy Pier

The Navy Pier is one of Chicago's most notable destinations all year long, but there's something really special about the experiences it offers when spring starts to settle in. Take a ride to the top of Centennial Wheel or enjoy a day filled with childlike whimsy atop a horse on the Carousel.

Spend an Afternoon at the Zoo

Sure, the polar bears and penguins have been enjoying the frigid temperatures and blustery winds that have taken Chicago by storm over the past few months, but there are plenty of furry friends who have been anxiously awaiting the day when the thermometer starts to climb. If you're lucky, you might get to meet a zoo baby that arrived into the world just in time to see the seasons switch over!

Bike Around Lake Michigan

Take in the shoreline of Lake Michigan on two wheels as the water starts to turn back into its liquid state after spending several months under a frozen top layer. Consider taking a ride around Millennium Park, too. If you've been a resident of the city for a while, Millennium Park is a great way to see Chicago through the eyes of a tourist.

Find a "Wine Walk"

There's no shortage of awesome eateries with outstanding wine selections in Chicago. Take advantage of the opportunities by imbibing in a wine walk this spring! Get to know local businesses while enjoying thoughtfully selected grape-and-appetizer pairings.

Spring is the perfect time to start fresh with a new-to-you apartment. Check out the floor plans we currently have available in our Presidential Towers community!

Christmas MarketWhen the weather turns cold in Chicago, it can only mean that the holidays are here again, and from mid-November until the New Year, there’s a great range of displays, markets, parades and shows to be enjoyed in America’s second city.

Here are just two that are not to be missed.

The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

This much-loved festival kicks off the holiday season for the 27th time on Michigan Avenue on Friday, the 16th, and Saturday, the 17th, of November.

From 4 p.m. Friday, Lights Festival Lane features live music, Santa Claus, face painting and circus performers along with popcorn, cotton candy and a variety of top brand treats.

The Lights Festival fun continues from Saturday morning at 11:00 with many more holiday experiences and special offers. And, as well as more live music shows, there’s also a chance to meet some favorite performers like Cody Simpson and Cailee Rae.

The weekend’s finale is the Tree Lighting Parade, which heads south along Michigan Avenue from Oak Street, starting at 5:30 p.m. Floats, marching bands and dancers will progress down the avenue accompanied by favorite Disney characters, lighting more than a million lights along the way.

The parade will come to a spectacular conclusion with fireworks over the Chicago River at 6:55 p.m.

The Christkindlmarket — November 16–December 24

The weekend of the Lights Festival also sees the beginning of the annual Christkindlmarket, which runs in the Chicago Loop until Christmas Eve.

The market is based on the traditional Christmas market held in Nuremberg since the 16th century, and it has become a cherished Chicago tradition during the 22 years since its inception.

Admission is free, and you can join your fellow Chicagoans and keep out the cold with German food and drink while enjoying entertainment from musicians, singers, dancers, magicians and theatre groups, and a unique outdoor shopping experience.

This year’s market will also be visited by the Christkind, the gift-bearing Christmas angel of the German-speaking world.

MarathonFounded in 1977, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is the height of attainment for both everyday runners and seasoned athletes. This year, the marathon has been slated for October 7, giving numerous runners a chance to achieve their dream. As a community member of Presidential Towers, you will not have to worry about scrambling for accommodation during this period.

The Chicago Marathon

The Chicago marathon offers a flat and fast course, one that travels through 29 neighborhoods in a beautiful city and starts and finishes in Grant Park. This has attracted over half a million runners since the marathon was founded.
Those interested in participating in the marathon should submit their applications before the application window closes. To be eligible, participants have to meet certain event requirements. You will also be required to pay a registration fee as part of the application process. Runners have the option of registering for different categories and track events.

During the marathon, participating masses will have access to medical support as well as designated aid stations that offer different amenities. While preparing for the event, runners can go through a training program that focuses on exercise, health and nutrition.
If you are not keen on taking part in the marathon, you can choose to be a volunteer or join the 1.7 million spectators in supporting the runners. The Chicago Marathon employs environmentally and socially responsible practices, making it more than just a simple track event.

Running Tips

Running a marathon is no joke. You must prepare adequately both before and on the day of the race. During the week, you should go easy on exercise, focus on sleep, and drink plenty of water. On the day, eat breakfast two hours before the race, start fueling before the race, and have the right mind frame both before and during the race.

There is no doubt that taking part in the Chicago marathon will make for an experience of a lifetime. Choosing our Chicago apartments will ensure that your experience is more fun and memorable. Call our office today to explore the different floor plans and learn about the amenities Presidential Towers offers its residents.

Lobster PlatterLabor Day has come to represent the official end of summer. While there are certainly plenty of toasty days ahead of us, this is the weekend when people really get out and enjoy the beauty of the area surrounding our Chicago apartments. If you're looking for something fun to do this Labor Day weekend, here are a few places you'll find some of your "Windy City" neighbors hanging out.

Great American Lobster Fest

Nobody said you have to be on the coast to get incredible seafood. The Great American Lobster Fest is the perfect use for the Navy Pier, bringing with it live lobster flown in fresh from the cold waters of the Atlantic. This event features live music, an interesting assortment of arts and crafts for sale, and a variety of food options, too.

Navy Pier Fireworks

There's nothing quite like watching fireworks explode over a large body of water. The Navy Pier's fireworks offer a family-friendly way to celebrate the end of summer in style. It's free to check out the sparkling lights, but while you're there, you might want to consider taking a boat tour or hitching a ride on the climate-controlled Centennial Wheel.

African American Festival of Arts

Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood comes alive on Labor Day weekend, creating a simulated African village that's filled with vibrant art, interactive experiences and engaging music that'll make your heart skip a beat. You'll find museum-quality collectible artifacts and an assortment of hand-woven textiles. Be sure to check out some of the authentic food before you leave!
