Making healthy eating this year at your luxury apartments in the West Loop, Chicago, one of your resolutions? With 2019 in full swing, we have a couple of suggestions if you're looking to get great results!
Riced Cauliflower Buddha Bowl
You can buy fresh or frozen cauliflower rice in many grocery stores, or you can do it yourself! Using the pulse setting, crush cauliflower florets in a food processor. Stop when you get a rice-like consistency, not a mash. Pre-cook the cauliflower rice to lower the water content, and freeze the extra for later. Dice and saute a medium onion along with 3 large minced garlic cloves on medium-high heat. Dice a medium sized bell pepper and jalapeño pepper and add it with the onion. As the onion becomes translucent and just begins to brown, add a can of full-fat coconut milk, your riced cauliflower, a touch of maple syrup, and either red curry paste or Sriracha sauce. Heat well and add 3/4 cup peanuts. Spoon into bowls and garnish with cilantro.
Southwest Sweet Potato Skillet
This chili-like dish for four is ready in 30 minutes!
Place 4 cubed sweet potatoes, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 small diced onion, and a teaspoon of cumin in a pot. Heat on medium with 1 Tbsp coconut or avocado oil. Cook while stirring occasionally until the vegetables have some give to them. Add two large, diced bell peppers. Drain a can of black beans and add them with a cup of canned or frozen corn, and a medium-sized can of diced tomatoes to the cooking mix. Stir in a teaspoon of taco seasoning and pepper combined. Bring to a boil. Cover and cook on medium-low heat for 10 minutes until the sweet potato cubes soften as desired. For finishing touches, squeeze a small lime over the skillet dish and garnish with cilantro, sliced avocados, and green onions.

If you're one of the millions who create a list of New Year's resolutions, you understand that they are easier to make than to keep. Sometimes, we've simply set the bar too high or we lose our willpower along the way. Whatever the reason for the lapse, most of us have made — and broken — resolutions. If you're looking for a resolution that you're likely to keep, we've come up with this short list of resolutions worth making.
4 New Years Resolution Ideas
Begin a meditation practice
If you’re not practicing meditation, now is the time. According to an article in Psychology Today, simple meditation offers a multitude of physical, emotional and mental benefits. It takes very little time, you don’t need any special tools, and you can do it wherever you are (except maybe while you’re driving).
Add some exercise in your daily routine
Whether you're running miles a day or rarely step away from your desk, it is likely that you can use a bit more exercise. The first thing to keep in mind is to set realistic goals. Come up with one small change you're sure you can master. Once you've accomplished that milestone, come up with another.
Get to know your neighbors
Given the number of Chicago apartments around you, imagine how many amazing people you could meet. The best way to get to know people in your neighborhood is to spend some time with them. Join your neighborhood gym, get to know people at church, or join a club that meets in the area. One of the benefits of living in Chicago is accessibility to so many different types of groups. If you're a writer, join a writer's group. If you're interested in art, join an art appreciation club. The point is to do things you find enjoyable and to meet new people with similar interests.
Be a visitor in your own city
Consider all the great things there are to see and do in Chicago and all the experiences you have yet to enjoy. This year is all about getting to know your own city, experiencing the places you've never visited, and appreciating Chicago as though you're a tourist.
Take full advantage of this blank slate with these fun suggestions! Resolutions are an easy way to prioritize what you want this chapter in your life to look like. If one of your resolutions is to upgrade your apartment, give us a call. We can help you find the perfect home!

2018 is almost over, and it's time to look back and reflect on our year. What have we achieved, and what surprises have come our way? What would you like to focus on in 2019? What hidden dreams and aspirations are calling to you, waiting for you to take them out of the shadows and make them a reality? Start with some simple goals, and watch as they help clear the way to even bigger goals.
Achievable Goals for the New Year
- Go to bed earlier: Poor sleep affects every aspect of your life. More sleep means fewer physical problems and increased mental health, stamina and productivity. Make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep every night.
- Connect with others: Many people suffer from loneliness in our modern age. Reach out, join a group, find a job or volunteer as a way of forming meaningful human bonds and friendships that don't fade. Life is always better with friends.
- Try out a new form of exercise: If you are in a weight loss or fitness rut, why not try something new? Go trail hiking, take up a new sport, or join a fitness group. Find what works for you and enjoy the thrill of a new adventure while taking care of your body.
- Catch up on your finances: Start saving or investing. Cut costs and automatically send that amount to your savings account or toward paying down loans. Listen to financial management podcasts or pick up a book to learn more about finances.
- Spend more time outdoors: Nature is its own therapy. Being outdoors restores your sense of wonder and helps clear the cognitive clutter of everyday life. Enjoy physical exercise in nature's gym.
- Read more books: Fiction books can help you relax. Non-fiction books can increase your knowledge and skills. Whatever type of book you choose to read, they are all good for your brain.
- Eat more fish: Fish contain omega-3s, healthy fats that keep your heart healthy. Fish is easy to prepare and great for those busy nights when you want to make a quick, healthy meal.
