Harry PotterChristmas is just around the corner. Don't wait too long to purchase gifts as really popular gifts tend to fly off the real (and virtual) shelves quickly this time of year. If you have been wondering what to get for the dear children in your life, here are a few ideas of what's hot this time of year.

Popular Christmas Gifts 2018

  • Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit: Coding isn't magic, but it can seem that way with all the fun you can have creating and building in the digital world. Children use a wand to learn how to code their own art, apps, music and games.
  • Pomsies Patches Plush: If you know of a child who loves soft, adorable, interactive toys, Pomsies are hard to beat. With rainbow soft fur, big eyes, and over 50 different interactions, it's hard not to fall in love. Each Pomsie comes with a brush.
  • Air Hogs Supernova: Control the Supernova with just your hands without touching it! Your child will love showing off over 30 moves and nine tricks. Their friends will think it is magic.
  • Fingerlings: For the extra cuddly kid, it's hard to beat a Fingerling. Fingerlings look like monkeys with extra long arms for cuddling and hugging. They can even give kisses and record kid voices with funny feedback.
  • Thrill Rides Bionic Blast Roller Coaster Building Set: For that builder/thrill seeker/future engineer in your life,  the K'NEX Thrill Rides Bionic Blast Building Set comes with over 800 parts to keep him or her busy and entertained. It even comes with a VR viewer so the child can experience the ride from a virtual angle.
  • Think & Learn Rocktopus: This is a great way to let kids learn all about music. This fun octopus teaches kids how to use different instruments and rhythms to let them experiment and try making their own music.
  • Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Epic Sewer Lair Play Set: This four-level, seven-room Teenage Mutant Ninja play set should have existed when you were a kid and fell in love with the turtles. Instead, you had to wait this long for such an awesome play set to arrive, so you bought it for your own child, because the turtles never go out of style.

There is no better gift than a great place to call home. At Presidential Towers Apartments in Chicago, there are lots of spaces to play. With a sundeck, several restaurants below, and a Fitness Formula Health Club, there is always something to do. Call us today to find out more about how fun life can be at Presidential Towers.

SangriaYou may be in the mood to warm up guests at your next holiday gathering with something more than hot cocoa. That’s why we’ve gathered some holiday cocktail ideas for residents of Presidential Towers apartments in Chicago, IL. Try out some of these fun ideas to spice things up.

Delicious Candy Cane Cocktail

This Sandra Lee inspiration is a good way to incorporate peppermint schnapps into a cocktail recipe for a nice holiday twist. Each serving should take around five minutes to prepare.

Ingredients list:

  • 1 single shot of vanilla rum
  • 1 single shot of peppermint schnapps
  • 1 single shot of your preferred white chocolate liquor
  • Candy cane for garnish

Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker full of ice. Shake well, then strain the mixture into a martini glass, adding the candy cane as a garnish when serving.

Santa’s Sleigh Eggnog Cocktail

Enjoy this new take on your typical eggnog drink. The ingredients listed below should produce four servings for your guests, and the recipe takes about seven minutes to prepare.

Ingredients list:

  • 2 cups of chilled, store-bought eggnog
  • Coarse white sugar crystals
  • ½ cup of amaretto liquor
  • ½ cup of brandy
  • 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 4 sticks of cinnamon

Dampen the rims of four martini glasses, then line each glass with the sugar crystals. Place everything except the cinnamon sticks into a blender, processing until you get a smooth consistency. Pour the mixture into the martini glasses, adding a stick of cinnamon in each.

Festive Pomegranate Sangria

Your guests won’t be able to get enough of this delicious vegetarian drink. You should be able to get four to six servings from the ingredients list below.

Ingredients list:

  • ½ cup of brandy
  • 2 cups pomegranate juice
  • ½ cup of triple sec
  • 1 bottle of your preferred fruity wine
  • 1 large orange, cut in half and thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1 cup of halved red grapes
  • 1 green apple that’s been cored, cut in half and thinly sliced
  • ½ cup of simple syrup (made from equal amounts of water and sugar that have been heated and cooled)

Place all ingredients in a pitcher, cover, and refrigerate for four hours before serving.

Cleaning With a SpongeOver time, dust and light debris may accumulate in your living space, dulling an otherwise impressive space. Often, it only takes a simple cleaning exercise to take your apartments interior appeal to the next level.

Reinvent your living space ahead of the upcoming holidays with these easy cleaning tips.

Plan Your Cleaning

Start by evaluating the task at hand, seeing what needs to be done and devising a strategy to accomplish the chores. You can do this by consolidating a list of achievable tasks in preferential order. You can also pretend to be a guest and look at your space with a visitor’s eye, identifying what needs to be cleaned.

Start by Cleaning the Windows and Entry

As a pro tip, stick to your list prepared in the earlier step. Paying attention to distractions such as an untidy drawer derails your progress. Begin by washing the windows and getting rid of cobwebs that give windows a dingy feel. Next, get to the glass on your front door, and clear any debris that may have accumulated over time. Finally, toss the window and shower curtains in the laundry and take some time to press them.

Cleaning the Bathroom

The bathroom is arguably the most used space in every home. As such, as you gear up for the holidays, it is vital to have it sparkling. Start by scrubbing the toilet using a brush and an effective disinfectant. Next, clean the tub or shower and neatly arrange the essentials in an organizer.

Handling the Guest Areas

For the guest areas, prepare a list of the fragile or irreplaceable items and put them on high shelves to avoid breakage. Next, use an empty laundry basket to clear any clutter in the living room, for example, stray clothes, books, toys, and magazines. Label all the baskets you use for easier rearrangement.

While the above list is not exhaustive, it is an ideal place to start while cleaning up for the holidays.

Christmas MarketWhen the weather turns cold in Chicago, it can only mean that the holidays are here again, and from mid-November until the New Year, there’s a great range of displays, markets, parades and shows to be enjoyed in America’s second city.

Here are just two that are not to be missed.

The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

This much-loved festival kicks off the holiday season for the 27th time on Michigan Avenue on Friday, the 16th, and Saturday, the 17th, of November.

From 4 p.m. Friday, Lights Festival Lane features live music, Santa Claus, face painting and circus performers along with popcorn, cotton candy and a variety of top brand treats.

The Lights Festival fun continues from Saturday morning at 11:00 with many more holiday experiences and special offers. And, as well as more live music shows, there’s also a chance to meet some favorite performers like Cody Simpson and Cailee Rae.

The weekend’s finale is the Tree Lighting Parade, which heads south along Michigan Avenue from Oak Street, starting at 5:30 p.m. Floats, marching bands and dancers will progress down the avenue accompanied by favorite Disney characters, lighting more than a million lights along the way.

The parade will come to a spectacular conclusion with fireworks over the Chicago River at 6:55 p.m.

The Christkindlmarket — November 16–December 24

The weekend of the Lights Festival also sees the beginning of the annual Christkindlmarket, which runs in the Chicago Loop until Christmas Eve.

The market is based on the traditional Christmas market held in Nuremberg since the 16th century, and it has become a cherished Chicago tradition during the 22 years since its inception.

Admission is free, and you can join your fellow Chicagoans and keep out the cold with German food and drink while enjoying entertainment from musicians, singers, dancers, magicians and theatre groups, and a unique outdoor shopping experience.

This year’s market will also be visited by the Christkind, the gift-bearing Christmas angel of the German-speaking world.
