Presidential Towers ClosetYour closets provide convenient places to store clothes and other items, but they can become cluttered and disorganized over time. When this happens, you might have trouble finding what you need in your closets. Use the following organization tips to get your closets in order so you can easily find what you need and avoid messes.

Organize Clothes by Color or Season

When you have a row of clothes hanging in your closet, grouping them together by color or season means you can quickly pull out the items you want. Slide clothes that are off-season off to the sides where they’re out of the way, and keep the clothes that are in season toward the center. This makes it easier to take seasonal items in and out of your closet as needed. If grouping by color works better for you, consider keeping black, gray or white clothing that you wear more often toward the center of your closet with other clothing off to the side.

Use Organizers for Shoes and Other Items

Keep shoes and other accessories in organizers inside your closet. Depending on the space you have, you might be able to use stackable shoe organizers and a set of storage drawers for accessories. If you don’t have room for storage drawers, you can keep a few smaller storage baskets in your closet to keep accessories organized.

Store Bulkier Items on Shelves

If you have shelves or drawers, this is where you can store sweaters, jeans, and thicker clothing items. Fold these items up, separate them by type, and stack them on your shelves. Doing this can help you save space in dresser drawers for T-shirts and less bulky clothing items.

Hang Scarves and Belts

If your closets have bars, this is a good spot to store belts and scarves. If they don’t, you can use a clothing rack for these items. Otherwise, you can drape belts and scarves over the bottom bar of regular pants hangers and keep them with your hanging clothes.

Our apartments in Chicago, IL, offer plenty of closet space. Please contact us for more detailed information on our community and available apartments.

It’s actually a real joy to do laundry in your Chicago apartments, especially when you know how to best care for your clothes. Here’s an overview of what those laundry care labels really mean!

Wash by Hand

The wash by hand label actually means that the item shouldn’t be agitated, such as the motion that you would get in a washing machine. The wash by hand laundry label indicates that the item should be soaked in a cleaning agent and then squeezed so that the dirt can be released from the fibers. The item can then either be laid flat to dry or placed inside of a dryer, depending on if there are any particular drying instructions.

Machine-Wash

This laundry label means that you can safely launder it in a regular washing machine. The agitation of the washing machine won’t damage the item. The only thing that you need to pay attention to is if there is a label indicating how hot or cold the water should be. Otherwise, you can assume that hot water is fine to use.

Tumble Dry

The tumble dry laundry label is the most confusing. If no mention of temperature is on the label, then you can assume that the dryer can be run at a hot temperature or warm temperature or no heat. However, if there is a temperature noted on the laundry label, then you have to make sure that the dryer doesn’t go above that temperature.

Dry Clean Only

If you have clothes that state dry clean only on the laundry label, this means that you’ll need to bring them to a commercial dry cleaner; cleaning at home might damage the fabric. Even if you have a small stain on the item, it is safest to bring it to a professional dry cleaner. Otherwise, you might cause irreparable damage to the fabric.

Always pay close attention to laundry care labels, both when you buy garments and when you go to wash them. If you would like to tour the laundry facilities and more in our Chicago, IL Apartments, please contact us!

Are you having an overnight guest in your Chicago apartments? Being thoughtful about making up a bedroom for friends or family to stay over ensures they feel welcome in your apartment home. Here are some ideas to consider!

Prepare in Advance

A few days in advance, begin to prepare the room to make sure it is ready for your company's arrival. You should vacuum the carpet or floor, making sure to vacuum under the bed and under the bedroom furniture. Change or launder the sheets and covers of the bed, too.

Keep Convenience in Mind

Keep convenience for the guest in mind. Make sure your guest has easy access to the bathroom, with clean towels and washcloths available. If it makes sense, place a mini-flashlight on the nightstand so your guest can find their way easily. Stop in at a local store and pick up some mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and soap, as well as toothpaste and a toothbrush for your guest to use. Place the items in a pretty basket on the bedroom nightstand for your guests to find.

Offer Slippers

Light slippers are very affordable, and they make a nice touch for an overnight guest. Buy a pair and place them at the foot of the bed as a welcome gift for your overnight guest to use and keep.

Decorate

Decorate the room with either fresh or dried flowers. Be sure to find out whether your guest has allergies before putting fresh flowers in the room. Another option would be to add a pretty potted plant in the room just to give it that added fresh look.

Add Scent

Finally, just a few hours before your guest retires for the evening, spray a scented aroma in the bedroom and on the sheets. This will make the room even more welcoming.

Making people feel at home is an important part of hosting an overnight guest. For a personal tour of the bedrooms in Chicago apartments, please contact us!

The flowers are blooming, your West Loop apartment has created a gorgeous fresh look in all of the common areas, and the birds are singing, which means spring is almost here! Get your own space ready for spring in a single morning with these handy seasonal cleaning hacks we love.
Switch out the bedding.

Fast and Easy Spring Cleaning Hacks

Switch out the bedding.

Nothing says spring like packing away the cozy down comforter or flannel and breaking out the lighter, colorful sheets and bedspread for those warmer months. Give these items a fresh wash when you start cleaning, and they’ll be ready to complete the bedroom when you are done. This is also the time to pack away any seasonal décor from fall or winter and bring in some fresh flowers to celebrate the start of a new season!

Out with the old, in with the new.

Many of the items you eat and use have a limited shelf life. Using them past the recommended time could impact their effectiveness and, more importantly, your health. Check the fridge, pantry, and cabinets for expired food items. Then, move on to the medicine cabinet. Expired medication won’t be as potent and should be discarded. If you wear cosmetics, that should be your next stop. Anything with a shelf life should be examined now and discarded if it is past its prime.

Deep clean the bath (in under 30 minutes).

Start by removing any rugs and either placing them on the patio or in the washer. Spray a foaming cleaner on all surfaces and drop a cleaning tablet into the toilet. Discard old toothbrushes, empty the trash, and clean the mirror. Wipe down the foam cleaner, starting at the bath and work your way out to the toilet. Let everything dry, then replace towels, paper products, and more for a spring-ready bathroom in minutes.

Your Chicago apartment will feel fresh, clean and ready for spring in less than a day with these simple changes. Presidential Towers in Chicago are always ready for a new season! Call or stop by and see about our floorplans today.

Cleaning With a SpongeOver time, dust and light debris may accumulate in your living space, dulling an otherwise impressive space. Often, it only takes a simple cleaning exercise to take your apartments interior appeal to the next level.

Reinvent your living space ahead of the upcoming holidays with these easy cleaning tips.

Plan Your Cleaning

Start by evaluating the task at hand, seeing what needs to be done and devising a strategy to accomplish the chores. You can do this by consolidating a list of achievable tasks in preferential order. You can also pretend to be a guest and look at your space with a visitor’s eye, identifying what needs to be cleaned.

Start by Cleaning the Windows and Entry

As a pro tip, stick to your list prepared in the earlier step. Paying attention to distractions such as an untidy drawer derails your progress. Begin by washing the windows and getting rid of cobwebs that give windows a dingy feel. Next, get to the glass on your front door, and clear any debris that may have accumulated over time. Finally, toss the window and shower curtains in the laundry and take some time to press them.

Cleaning the Bathroom

The bathroom is arguably the most used space in every home. As such, as you gear up for the holidays, it is vital to have it sparkling. Start by scrubbing the toilet using a brush and an effective disinfectant. Next, clean the tub or shower and neatly arrange the essentials in an organizer.

Handling the Guest Areas

For the guest areas, prepare a list of the fragile or irreplaceable items and put them on high shelves to avoid breakage. Next, use an empty laundry basket to clear any clutter in the living room, for example, stray clothes, books, toys, and magazines. Label all the baskets you use for easier rearrangement.

While the above list is not exhaustive, it is an ideal place to start while cleaning up for the holidays.

Discover your perfect home today at Presidential Towers. Our apartments in Chicago, IL, are tailor-made to afford you comfort and convenience at a go. Get in touch with our office to see which floor plans are currently available.
