If you're like most residents of apartments in Chicago, you've welcomed the flowers, foliage and blue skies of spring with a happy heart. Here are several suggestions designed to make your picnic fabulous at enjoying the changing season!
Keep It Classic
There's a reason why classic picnic foods include cold fried chicken, pinwheel sandwiches and watermelon — these are easy as finger foods! Other staples include macaroni or potato salad. if you want to go green, consider using disposable items manufactured with sustainable materials, such as bamboo or recycled plastic.
Have Cover Area Nearby
Spring weather can be unpredictable even if the forecast calls for perfect weather. Choose a location with a covered area nearby, such as a park with a lovely gazebo. That way, the picnic won't be ruined if the weather takes an unexpected turn.
Create a Checklist
This ensures that you never leave an important item behind at home that you need for the picnic spot. Make a compressive checklist of everything you'll need, bottle openers, trash bags, ice for drinks, or napkins, and carefully check it off prior to departing on your picnic.
Be Mindful of Food Safety
Keep cold foods cold until it's time to eat. Always pack your picnic in an insulated carrier even if your destination is just a short drive away. The last thing you want is for someone to come down with a foodborne illness. Also, be sure to take along enough antibacterial wipes for everyone in case there isn't a place nearby to wash your hands before eating.
Our community is abundant with picnic and barbecue areas right on-site! Call us today to find out more.

The Windy City is ready to thaw out after a long winter's slumber. As the residents of our Chicago, IL apartments start to shed those layers in favor of light jackets, we've found a few ways you can enjoy your springtime free time!
Catch a Baseball Game
Fewer things scream spring quite like Opening Day at a baseball diamond. Whether you're in the Cubs club, live and breathe the White Sox, or you really don't know anything about the game at all, make sure you pencil in a game early in the season. Grab a hot dog while you're there–the game's just not the same without one!
Head to the Navy Pier
The Navy Pier is one of Chicago's most notable destinations all year long, but there's something really special about the experiences it offers when spring starts to settle in. Take a ride to the top of Centennial Wheel or enjoy a day filled with childlike whimsy atop a horse on the Carousel.
Spend an Afternoon at the Zoo
Sure, the polar bears and penguins have been enjoying the frigid temperatures and blustery winds that have taken Chicago by storm over the past few months, but there are plenty of furry friends who have been anxiously awaiting the day when the thermometer starts to climb. If you're lucky, you might get to meet a zoo baby that arrived into the world just in time to see the seasons switch over!
Bike Around Lake Michigan
Take in the shoreline of Lake Michigan on two wheels as the water starts to turn back into its liquid state after spending several months under a frozen top layer. Consider taking a ride around Millennium Park, too. If you've been a resident of the city for a while, Millennium Park is a great way to see Chicago through the eyes of a tourist.
Find a "Wine Walk"
There's no shortage of awesome eateries with outstanding wine selections in Chicago. Take advantage of the opportunities by imbibing in a wine walk this spring! Get to know local businesses while enjoying thoughtfully selected grape-and-appetizer pairings.

According to a famous Ella Fitzgerald song, "Summertime, and the livin' is easy." Well, maybe not so much if you're living in Chicago during a heat wave. If it seems like your thermometer won't stop edging upward, check out the following Lake Michigan beaches where you can seek refuge from Chicago's often hot dog days of summer.
North Avenue Beach
This popular and typically busy beach is located in Lincoln Park at 1600 N. Lake Shore Drive. You'll find just about everything you'll need to enjoy a day at the beach here, including concessions, restrooms, kayak and bike rentals, volleyball courts, as well as views of the city. It also boasts a unique beach house that has been designed to look like a stranded ocean liner.
Oakwood Beach
This relatively secluded stretch of sand, located at 4100 S. Lake Shore Drive, is Chicago's newest beach. Amenity-wise, it has restrooms, a lifeguard first aid station, and pretty views of the city. It is also home to Mamby on the Beach, Chicago's only beachside music festival.
Montrose Beach
Do you have a dog that enjoys the beach life as much as you do? Then head over to Montrose Beach. This popular Uptown stretch of sand, located at 4400 N. Lake Shore Drive, has most of the standard amenities you'd expect at a nice beach, including concessions, restrooms, and shower facilities. But what sets it apart is its extra amenities, such as kayak rentals, free Wi-Fi, and a fenced-off area where dogs can play off their leashes.
Oak Street Beach
Located at 1000 N. Lake Shore Drive, this beach is just a quick walk from the Magnificent Mile. So it's probably not surprising that this beach, which offers chair and bike rentals and restrooms, is so popular with Chicagoans. Oak Street Beach also hosts a number of volleyball tournaments during the summer months.
Enjoy the Beach Life
Our apartments in Chicago are located close to the Metra, CTA, 190/94, I55 and I290, so you can enjoy a relatively easy commute to most of these beaches. Interested in living in our conveniently located community? Please contact us for more information.
